Nourishing Bodies, Empowering Minds
At Chief Payepot School, we understand the critical role that nutrition plays in the overall well-being and academic success of our students. Our Nutrition Program is designed to provide healthy and balanced meals that fuel students’ bodies and minds, creating an optimal environment for learning and growth.
Our Approach
All students in grades Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 are served breakfast and lunch Monday to Thursday. Fridays we serve breakfast and ask that students bring their own lunch.
Microwaves are available in the classrooms for heating food.
We believe that every child deserves access to nutritious meals that support their physical and cognitive development. Our Nutrition Program is guided by the following principles:
- Nutritional Balance: We strive to offer meals that are rich in essential nutrients, including whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables, while limiting added sugars and unhealthy fats.
- Variety and Choice: Our menu rotates regularly to provide students with a diverse selection of nutritious options. We also accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences to ensure that all students can enjoy their meals.
- Education and Awareness: We promote nutrition education and encourage healthy eating habits both inside and outside the cafeteria. Our goal is to empower students to make informed choices about their diet and lifestyle.
- Community Engagement: We work closely with parents, teachers, and community partners to support our Nutrition Program and promote healthy eating initiatives. Together, we create a culture of wellness that extends beyond the school walls.
Meal Options
Our cafeteria offers a range of delicious and nutritious meal options, including:
- Breakfast: Start the day off right with a hearty breakfast featuring whole-grain cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, and more.
- Lunch: Our lunch menu includes a variety of hot and cold entrees, salads, sandwiches, and vegetarian options. All meals are prepared with high-quality ingredients and cooked to perfection.
- Snacks: We offer wholesome snacks such as fresh fruit, vegetables with dip, yogurt, cheese, and whole-grain crackers to keep students energized throughout the day.
Wellness Initiatives
In addition to providing nutritious meals, we are committed to promoting overall wellness among our students. Our school participates in wellness initiatives such as:
- Physical Activity: We encourage students to stay active and incorporate movement into their daily routines through physical education classes, recess, and extracurricular activities.
- Mindfulness and Mental Health: We recognize the importance of mental health and offer resources and support to help students manage stress, build resilience, and cultivate positive mental well-being.
- Community Gardens: We maintain school gardens where students can learn about gardening, healthy eating, and environmental sustainability while enjoying fresh produce grown on-site.
Get Involved
Parents, teachers, and community members are invited to get involved in our Nutrition Program. Whether through volunteering in the cafeteria, sharing healthy recipes, or participating in wellness events, your support is essential to the success of our program.
